Carol Stein’s thought provoking, sculptural baskets combine “traditional and invented basketry methods with abstract and realistic drawings.” Carol begins by drawing or painting images on layers of rice paper, which are then methodically cut, reassembled, and shaped into remarkable contemporary baskets. A simple image may entwine with another, showing duality of emotion; individual hands may be coupled to suggest unity – endless forms of expression. A practicing psychologist, Carol sees her work as “informing my exploration of the human condition and expanding my work as an artist.”
