Susan Collett’s large scale ceramic vessels appear as though they have been formed over time. The forms suggest natural processes of evolution and transformation, as in the build up of sediment into rock or the growth of a coral reef. Her technique involves layering strips of clay, allowing gaps and ridges to form, and continuously working the surface of each piece. Multiple firings and glazes create subtle color gradations and enhance the tactile nature of the forms.
